Welcome to the FIG Book Club!
Welcome to Future Image Group’s Book Club! Every month, we’ll recommend a book, abstract, or research paper related to personal and professional development in the workplace (which, in turn, is also related to the development of social skills and more meaningful personal relationships). We hope you enjoy – and we’d love to hear your recommendations for books that have helped you or given you some insight on your own journey of professional or personal social development.
Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking
Our recommended reading for February 2019 is a book called Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain, the first in a series of books about Introverts and Extrovert-Introvert relationships that started a paradigm shift in our way of thinking, affectionately referred to as “The Quiet Revolution.”
In Cain’s book, she implores us to understand the value that Introverts bring to the table and why they are often overlooked, though they’re talented, capable individuals. The book tells the stories of real people, combined with Cain’s well-crafted, passionate arguments on why we need to recognize the Introverts struggling to succeed in a country with an “Extrovert Ideal.”
Cain explores stories from many different social groups from Asian-American students who feel disconnected from the loud and boisterous American university experience to Introverts who have found success by leveraging their own quiet ways creatively.
