Welcome to the FIG Book Club!
Welcome to Future Image Group’s Book Club! Every month, we’ll recommend a book, abstract, or research paper related to personal and professional development in the workplace (which, in turn, is also related to the development of social skills and more meaningful personal relationships). We hope you enjoy – and we’d love to hear your recommendations for books that have helped you or given you some insight on your own journey of professional or personal social development.
Fuse: Making Sense of the New Cogenerational Workplace
Our recommended reading for April 2019 is a book called Fuse: Making Sense of the New Cogenerational Workplace by Jim Finkelstein. With 5 generations in the workplace at once, chances are that your office space and project teams are filled with individuals from Gen Z to Traditionalists, who likely don’t see eye-to-eye and have completely different communication styles.
Though Fuse focuses on the generations with the largest number of individuals in the workplace – Baby Boomers and Millennials – the book will give you insight on how to confront common points of intergenerational friction and teach you how to fuse the best characteristics of each generation into a new workplace culture that’s a good fit for all.
Fuse takes a look at the big picture of intergenerational workplace communication, but also gives simple steps and tips that can be implemented today, so that you can begin making positive changes immediately for a more productive, happier workplace. For instance, Finkelstein tackles questions like: How can an older company draw in the hottest new talent? How can a recent grad thrive in an environment she perceives as steeped in cronyism and favoritism? How can a business owner motivate a young professional differently than a seasoned worker?
